Project Portfolio I
As students we were introduced to the topic of project management and explored the growing need for better project management in the fields of information technology and cybersecurity. The purpose of this exercise was to learn technology terminology for hardware and software products. In addition, we analyzed a ficitonal business case, produced a high-level Local Area Network (LAN) which we designed for our client, (including researching, pricing, identifying and defining hardware and software specifications) providing a network diagram, and constructing a project report. We also learned the role of professional organizations like the Project Management Institute (PMI), and the importance of certification and ethics.

Project Scope
Why are you initiating this project for Marconi Law?
Marconi Law wants to operate more efficiently and effectively. The president wants to take advantage of newer technologies and would like to invest in a new computer network system for his entire office with future expansion capability.
What are the key objectives or high-level work specifications that you will provide to Marconi Law?
The key objectives are to setup and install a fully functional local area network system for 10 employees.
What are the project deliverables and need in terms of hardware and software?
I must provide a comprehensive project report including a network diagram, weekly timesheets and status reports. I also must implement 1 router, 1 server, 1 switch, 10 computers with monitors if needed, 2 WAPs, 10 VoIP phones, 1 printer, 1 Conference Phone and 1 Smart TV for conference room, server software, and client computer software. All of this within 5 weeks of their projected moving date.
What is not included in this project?
Cables, Mice, surge protectors, and other Computer accessories. If server hardware or other equipment requires rack mounting, those racks and mounts might need separate procurement.
What are the project constraints?
I would have a short timeline. Moving to the new office in five weeks leaves a very tight timeframe for planning, equipment acquisition, installation, testing, and training. This could impact the ability to thoroughly test and debug the network before the move.
What are at least 5 key success factors that will define this project?
1. Meeting the tight deadline. 2. Effective communication and collaboration. 3. Budget adherence. 4. Seamless network functionality. 5. Clear project scope
How long and how much will this project take and cost, respectively?
Since it is such a tight window of time I would like to be able to use as much of the 5 weeks as possible to make everything perfect but with that said it could take less. The overall cost would be $50,947.43.
Network Objectives/Benefits
Benefit 1) Improved Communication– VoIP phones: Employees can have clear and cost-effective phone calls internally and externally.
Video conferencing: The network can support video conferencing, enabling remote meetings and collaboration with clients or partners.
Benefit 2) Increased Efficiency– Remote access: Employees can potentially work remotely with secure access to the network and resources.
Mobility: Wi-Fi access will allow employees to move around the office and stay connected.
Benefit 3) Enhanced security - A well-configured network can improve data security and protect against cyber threats.

Comments for each milestone
Milestone 1:
What problems did you run into? Not much room for icons and improvements on diagram
How did you fix them? Made smaller icons and got creative with different colors to make easier to read
Is there anything that you did not complete that you now have to push off into the next milestone? Not yet
Any other comments? Would like to be able to add a “zoomed” in page of the mechanical room where everything will be located to show a better representation of hardware in diagram
Milestone 2:
What problems did you run into? Figuring out the IP addresses, netmask, broadcast address etc was rather tricky to start off.
How did you fix them? Using the websites provided was a major relief and huge help
Is there anything that you did not complete that you now have to push off into the next milestone? Didn’t have to push off anything. Was able to complete all tasks.
Any other comments? No further comments
Milestone 3:
What problems did you run into? I did not run into any problems this week.
How did you fix them? Was able to work without running into problems.
Is there anything that you did not complete that you now have to push off into the next milestone? Didn’t have to push off anything. Was able to complete all tasks.
Any other comments? No further comments
Milestone 4:
What problems did you run into? Had to make a lot of space for Hardware/software specs in PowerPoint
How did you fix them? Made smaller but kept legible to not comprise presentation
Is there anything that you did not complete that you now must push off into the next milestone? Didn’t have to push off anything. Was able to complete all tasks.
